Some dreams take time to come true.

Reindeer in the rain

For the entire trip, we had hoped for an encounter with wild reindeer. We knew the chances were slim. The hunting season had already started, and most animals were staying high in the mountains. Still, every morning we set out with hope. Then, on the very last day, it happened. Out of the mist and rain, this magnificent wild reindeer bull appeared and slowly made its way down from the higher terrain. For a moment, everything seemed to come together. The landscape, the weather, the animal, and the journey that had led us here. The rain was something we had secretly wished for. While many photographers hope for clear blue skies, the rain added atmosphere and character. It softened the distant mountains and created the feeling of wilderness that makes the Scandinavian highlands so special. These are the conditions in which wild reindeer have survived for thousands of years, and seeing this bull move through that landscape felt both humbling and unforgettable. For a few precious minutes, he walked calmly through the open mountain terrain, completely unaware of the excitement he created. No dramatic behaviour, no perfect pose, just a wild animal living its life in one of Europe's last truly wild mountain ecosystems.

Moments like this are impossible to plan. You can prepare, travel long distances, spend days searching and waiting, but nature decides if and when it will happen. Perhaps that is exactly what makes encounters like this so meaningful. On our final day, when expectations had already begun to fade, nature offered another gift.
